Breaking in those new wrestling shoes. October 10, 2007

I just recently got a new pair of work boots and the first day, they were not as flexible or comfortable as I’d hoped. This got me to thinking about how breaking in your wrestling shoes, or any shoes for that matter, is key to performing your best.

Blue Wrestling ShoesSure, a new pair of wrestling shoes is nice, but right out of the box, they may be a little stiff. Breaking them in is an important key. Think of it like initiation.

So how do you break in your wrestling shoes? I came up with three ideas.

The first is to wear them around home. Put them on when you’re lazing around the house or watching TV. Your daily activity can be enough to get them moving around and broken in a little.

The second is to wear them while working out. If you have a home gym or if you go to the gym, that’s a good place to break in the shoes as your constantly moving.

And of course wrestling practice. When the season starts up, wearing your new shoes for a few days will more than likely have them performing better.

Personally I think wearing your new wrestling shoes around home first is the best choice. That way you’re not tied into an hour practice session or work out. You can get on and off your feet at any time.

Either way, breaking in that new pair of wrestling shoes could be crucial to winning a match. If I were you, I wouldn’t step out on the mat without breaking in the wrestling shoes first.
